>Why I Write

As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write. In fact, one of those high school-era career assessment tests identified only two solid paths for me: writing, or operating a winery. While that sounds interesting, I’m really more of a beer snob. 😉 And somehow I ended up in a tech job. While I am good with computers, it’s always been the words that have held my heart. I love how they feel on my tongue as they roll around, awaiting their release. But somehow along the way, the dream was sublimated for success in other endeavors–which now feel hollow. It has been a long road back, and has been both more fulfilling, and frustrating, than I imagined. In this regard, my biggest demon is me: despite being told so–repeatedly–I didn’t believe I was any good, or that I had anything of value to say. I’ve had to learn to trust that neither is true. I can do this, and I have a unique voice. There have been stumbles, and I have made a nuisance of myself (and will do so again, no doubt), but I’m having fun, and wouldn’t trade it for the world. If you write, why do you do so? What drives you?
