>I’m going to be generous here, and assume the best of intentions, but just how is a gift like this supposed to be interpreted? See here:

You see, my wife has PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and diabetes. Despite working her tail off at the gym, and watching what she eats, the weight doesn’t come off the way she hopes it will. Of course, there’s some history here (that I won’t go into), so just how are to interpret this gift? What message is my mom trying to send? What’s the take-away? This is the same woman who didn’t want my wife to be in family photos. So it seems awfully passive-aggressive to me. Am I nuts? I want to be charitable, I want to live a convincing witness here, but family can be so toxic. What’s a husband to do?
