Odds & Ends: Featuring Abraham Lincoln & @kevinrhaggerty

Been busy today. So instead of a regular post, thought I’d drop some odds and ends on you:

After buying it two years ago, I’m finally reading Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. It’s a fun, easy read, and its author, Seth Grahame-Smith, does a good job of tying the vampire story to the times. If there’s weakness, it’s that structurally the story harks back to the epistolary novels of yore, and thus errs more on the “tell,” than the “show,” side. But still it’s fun.

I give it two random thumbs up.

On an entirely unrelated note, Kevin Haggerty breaks it down today about how, like Lady Gaga, he’s caught in a bad bromance. Call him “Kevin Haggerty, Bromance Killer.” Or something. Anyway, I’ve read his post, and isn’t it ironic that the author of “The I Love Man Dot Net” Internet site is weirded out by dude love?

The more I think about it, the more I believe that what Kevin is really telling us is that he relaxes to the soothing strains of Kenny G while in his bubble baths. That’s subtext, people.

Anyway, it would be really awesome if those of who are reading would do two things:

1) Head to Kevin’s site, and drop an “I love you, man” on him in the comments; and/or,
2) If you’re a dude, and you’re on Twitter, tweet @kevinrhaggerty “I love you, man”

This should be all kinds of awesome! Let the games begin!

(Kevin, if you read this: it’s all in fun. I only razz dudes I respect. It’s in guys handbook of life. In other words, “I love you, man!”)

How about you? Have you read Grahame-Smith’s book? (Or read anything else recently?) Do you know Kevin, and love him? Share in the comments.

  • This is funny stuff. Great idea.

    • Thanks, man! Thanks for carrying the torch!

  • I have not read the book, but look forward to the movie. And I’ve already sworn to Kevin I would not tell him I love him.

    • Yeah me, too.

As for Kevin--tell him you love him in the Lord. Cause that’s how we roll here in America, right?

  • I’m trying to read Crime and Punishment because for some stupid reason I put ‘read a Russian novel’ on my lists of new year’s resolutions. 120 pages in, 450 to go.

    • One night 20 years ago, I stayed up til 3:00 A.M. to finish that book. It bowled me over. Strangely, I’ve not read any Dostoyevsky since. Though I have many of his books, Tolstoy’s, and Solzhenitsyn’s, I’ve not yet tackled them. The price of admission is high, or something. Good luck!
